The St. Jude Half-Marathon - December 6, 2008

We have been deeply privileged to have had patients from St. Jude Research Hospital in our practice.  Their spirits exude joy and bravery and they are full of the excitement and wonder of life.  So to those kids we know and love, and to those we've never met, this was for you!

"To run the St. Jude Marathon was a time I will never forget.  Training for several months with the office team, encouraging and challenging each other, seeing our abilities improve from barely running 2 miles to eventually completing the half marathon (over 13 miles!) was an awesome accomplishment.  However, the biggest and most lasting memory will be the St. Jude kids that this race benefits.  The cheering St. Jude kids at the race, the families of current and past patients, all symbolizing the determination of the kids and the love of our whole community for them.  Our goal was to run to celebrate our patients who have been to St. Jude or who work there; in the end, our reward was to see and feel their heroism as they battle to live healthy lives.  Thank God for St. Jude - I can't wait to run again next year.  Who knows?  Maybe the full 26 miles this time!!"

"I have had an opportunity to work with St. Jude kids in the past.  It was such a blessing to me, so I wanted to do something special for them.  Every time I ran by a sign posting the pictures of the St. Jude kids, I was blessed."

"The half-marathon for St. Jude was a very challenging yet a very rewarding experience for me.  During the times in the race when I felt like I couldn't continue, I would think about the St. Jude kids.  They face trials each and every day that we can't even imagine and they face each day with such courage and a determination to fight for life.  They are the true heroes.  What an incredible opportunity to participate in such a great cause."

- Lindy

"Running the half-marathon for the children at St. Jude was such a humbling experience.  I never thought I could go 13.1 miles, but the kids and their families were so encouraging.  Throughout the race, I was amazed by the signs and cheers from all of the people.  I am thankful that I was able to be a part of this wonderful cause and definitely plan to run again next year."

- Kelly

"Running the half-marathon was one of the most physically challenging things I have ever done, but I know it pales in comparison to what all those children and families at St. Jude have endured.  I am happy I was able to participate in such a wonderful event and support such a great cause."
